The Sandy Hook Memorial is a Basic Challenge — GORUCK’s entry-level format, typically four to five hours of rucking and team work over a shortened distance, done as a group rather than as a race. This edition is held in Newtown, Connecticut, to honour the twenty children and six adults who lost their lives on 14 December 2012, and is led by Cadre Ramy, a former Green Beret with 5th Special Forces Group. Entry is $55, the only ticket type offered, and GORUCK states that all net proceeds are donated to the Ana Grace Project. Registration is handled by GORUCK directly.
GORUCK publishes a 10:00 AM start on 5 December 2026, from Dickinson Park Playground on Deep Brook Road in Newtown. No finish time is published; a Basic Challenge typically runs four to five hours. The packing list and event FAQ are on the registration page.
Less Every event worth a weekend, in one email. Rucking, hybrid fitness, obstacle and endurance, wherever in the country they are.
