Pikes Peak Marathon & Ascent organizes two mountain races run on consecutive days each September from Manitou Springs, Colorado, up the Barr Trail to the 14,115-foot summit of Pikes Peak. The Ascent covers 13.3 miles and roughly 7,800 feet of climbing to the summit finish; the Marathon covers the same ascent and returns the way it came for a full 26.2 miles. The Marathon is the oldest continually held marathon in the United States, and runners who complete both races over the weekend are recognized as Doublers.
